Online Hebrew tutoring is an effective and convenient way to learn Hebrew. One of our experienced tutors will meet with you or your child individually on your schedule, for weekly or biweekly half-hour sessions. We start with recognizing and reading Hebrew letters, and then learning essential songs and prayers with a focus on the meaning of keywords. We will work around your goals, whether they are basic familiarity with Hebrew, following or leading services, or even translating Torah.
Does it work?
Yes! In fact, we have spoken with live Hebrew schools that have shifted to virtual tutoring because it is more effective than classroom based instruction! In a Hebrew School classroom setting, often one child reads while the other children try to behave. Our tutors are totally focused on your child during their session, so your child is reading and learning the entire session. This results in more learning than hours spent in a class. In fact, we have taught children to read Hebrew in just a few months!
What will I learn?
We work with you to decide your learning goals. For some families, this means leading the entire service and reading from the Torah; for some, this means learning basic prayers and songs. In addition to reading Hebrew, we teach keywords so your child will understand the themes of the prayers they are reading.
When should I start?
It’s never too early to start, and never too late. Children can start as soon as they can focus in a virtual setting; we have successfully started with some children as early as kindergarten. We have also successfully tutored children who started months before their Bar mitzvah date. Depending on their ability to focus, it can take 6 months to a year to learn to read Hebrew, and then another 6 months to a year to learn major prayers. This decision when to start has to do with how many prayers your child wants to learn–the earlier you start, the more of the service and Torah reading they will be able to read. The best time to start is as early as possible, so that what they learn is deeply ingrained and they can use it the rest of their life.
We look forward to supporting your Jewish education!
